How to Grow
| Sowing | Water | Light | Temp | Days | Harvest |
| Sow indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost, 0.5–1 cm deep. Transplant outdoors when night temps stay above 10°C, spacing 45–60 cm apart. | Water consistently at the base to keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases like blight. | Full sun (6–8+ hours). |
20–25°C (germination)
18–24°C (growing) |
6–12 germination
60–90 harvest |
Harvest when fruits are fully colored (red, yellow, etc.) and yield slightly to gentle pressure. |
Tips
-
Plant deep: When transplanting, bury the stem up to the first set of leaves. The buried stem will sprout new roots, creating a stronger, healthier plant.
-
Support is key: Use stakes, cages, or trellises early on to support the heavy fruit load and keep vines off the ground.
-
Pruning: Pinch off ”suckers” (small shoots growing in the crotch between the main stem and branches) on indeterminate varieties to direct energy into fruit production.
